Well Cottage, a Grade II listed thatched cottage in Ledwell, Oxfordshire

Well Cottage

Ledwell · Oxfordshire Cotswolds

A restored thatched cottage in a quiet, and charming Cotswold hamlet

From £1,000 / week · sleeps 7 · Soho Farmhouse 0.8 miles · Gt. Tew 1 mile

Welcome to Well Cottage

The lane out of Great Tew narrows to a single track, the hedgerows close in, and then the thatch appears — low and gold against the green. This is Well Cottage: a self-catering Grade II listed Cotswold home of worn flagstones, deep window seats and wood-smoke evenings, beautifully restored and made for slow weekends. We've kept everything that makes it special and quietly added the comforts you'd hope for.

It's the cottage I grew up in — in the family since 1979, and quietly restored over 2023–2024. — James, owner

Well Cottage is a self-catering Grade II listed thatched cottage in Ledwell, Oxfordshire, sleeping seven guests across four bedrooms, from £1,000 per week — 0.8 miles from Soho Farmhouse.

The roof

The final part of the restoration

The thatch was stripped back completely and re-laid from scratch in February 2026 — the last piece of a careful restoration that gives the cottage new life whilst retaining its character. Our local master thatcher and his team spent several weeks on the roof; it should last another 25 years.

Room by room

Spaces to gather, and spaces to disappear

Two sitting rooms, a snug by the stairs, a book-lined library and a country kitchen — every room beamed, lime-plastered and full of light.

The reason most guests come

Soho Farmhouse, less than a mile away

Well Cottage sits a short hop from Soho Farmhouse — close enough to spend the day there and be home by the fire, without the members'-club price of staying over. We'll point you to everything else worth knowing, too: the pubs, the farm shops and the walks straight from the door.
